Top 10 Film Couples

14 Days of Love Series

As we start February, the month of love, I wanted to showcase my top 10 favorite film couples to kick-start my 14 days of Love Stories (hosted on Instagram).

So, have you ever been sitting on the couch, soaking in a new (or old) movie and next thing you know you’ve got butterflies fluttering in your stomach and your heart feels heavy and you begin to feel something deep in the pit of your stomach —wait a sec, is that…hope? These symptoms are often associated with watching an epic love story. The most famous film couples have the ability to turn cynics into believers and can even warm the coldest of hearts. Whether it’s a rom-com or a drama —the outcome is usually the same and these love stories make you believe in love or at least hope for it. That chemistry just has to be real, right? Here are my top 10 films couples who live on in my heart long after the final credits roll.

Honorable Mentions

Sandy & Danny (Grease)
Good girl falls for bad boy. Tale as old as time. See below.

Katarina “Kat” Stratford & Patrick Verona (10 Things I Hate About You)
While I am still waiting for a guy to serenade me from the bleachers, these two are the perfect high school couple. 🙃

Ennis & Jack (Brokeback Mountain)
“Wish I knew how to quit you” – just wow.

10. Edward & Vivian (Pretty Woman)

While an unlikely fairytale – this couple just can’t be missed. Some say it hasn’t aged well but for me – who really saved who here?

9. Alvy Singer & Annie Hall (Annie Hall)

While Woody Allen and Diane Keaton might have starred together in several films, nothing beats their love story in Annie Hall (1977). This gem will always hold a special place in my heart.

8. Jesse & Céline (Before Trilogy)

How could we not fall in love with Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) as they walk through Vienna till sunrise? Only to see them NOT together in Before Sunset (2004) and then together again at last in Before Midnight (2013). What a ride.

7. Sebastian & Mia (La La Land)

Third times the charm…right? La La Land (2016) was the third time the duo have starred together as love interests and while I loved Crazy, Stupid Love (2011) this one hits all the marks on an epic love story.

6. Baby & Johnny (Dirty Dancing)

Outside of amazing dance moves – the love story between Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and Baby (Jennifer Grey) is the tale of every holiday romance we wish we’d had. Peppered with an amazing soundtrack – this one gives us all the feels.

5. Noah & Allie (The Notebook)

Talk about a love story that spanned a lifetime. Nobody, I mean nobody, could watch this film without falling in love with them. Let’s not forget about that kiss in the rain…

4. Scarlett O’Hara & Rhett Butler (Gone with the Wind)

Frankly, my dear, how could I not include this classic duo on my top 10 couples list? Their exciting yet complex love story still to this day has us saying “Ashley, who?”

3. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy (Pride & Prejudice)

Elizabeth Bennett (Keira Knightley) and Mr. Darcy (Matthew McFadyen) remain one of the greatest couples of all time. Overcoming his pride and overcoming her prejudice of first impressions – the two are destined to be together.

2. Ilsa & Rick (Casablanca)

A former flame rekindled, Isla (Ingrid Bergman) reappears in her former lover Rick’s (Humphrey Boggart) life a married woman, yet the couple can’t fight their deeply buried desires. This 1942 tale of lost love is imprinted on our memories, forever.

1. Jack & Rose (Titanic)

While their story is short lived and yes Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) could have fit on the door, that doesn’t stop these two from being the very definition of iconic. End of story.
