Highlight of some TV Series and Movies coming to Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max next month!
New & Noteworthy
Palm Springs (2020)

Streaming: Hulu
Available On: 7/10
Starring Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, Peter Gallagher and J.K. Simmons, Palm Springs in a romantic comedy directed by Max Barbakow. It centers around two strangers who meet at a Palm Springs wedding only to get stuck in a time loop (very similar to Groundhog Day from 1993). I am sure this one will get a few good laughs and it will be worth the watch as it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and has received positive reviews from critics with praise for the performances and it’s concept.
The Old Guard (2020)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/10
Yet another film with Charlize Theron being a badass. The Old Guard is a superhero film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and it is based on the comic book of the same name. Honestly, Netflix is really hit or miss with their original films so I am skeptical of this one but with Charlize starring I know that her performance will be top-notch.
Cursed (2020)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/17
While Netflix tends to let us down on their original movies, their original series have been quite successful in recent years. With that being said Cursed, starring 13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford, looks promising and it is based off the illustrated novel of the same name. I have some high hopes for this reimagined Arthurian legend.
Desperados (2020)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/3
Honestly, this story has been done a few times but Netflix has done a decent job pulling-off some romantic comedies lately such as Always Be My Maybe, Ibiza Love Drunk and Someone Great. We all know this isn’t going to be an amazing movie but it will definitely check some rom-com boxes.
Warrior Nun (2020)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/2
It seems like the theme of July for Netflix is comic books. Warrior Nun looks…interesting. While the name does throw me off a bit, the concept looks rather entertaining and I feel I might try out an episode or two.
Classic Must Watch
If you haven’t seen this films, they are a definite must watch for the month of July, you won’t be disappointed!
Best in Show (2000)

Streaming: Hulu
Available On: 7/1
This classic from 2000 is a must watch! Best in Show is a mockumentary comedy film based on American dog shows. Co-written by Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy and directed by Guest the film follows five entrants in a prestigious dog show as they travel to show and compete. Much of the film’s dialogue was improvised and it will have you laughing.
Footloose (1984)

Streaming: Hulu
Available On: 7/1
If you’re in the mood for a musical drama then the classic Footloose is a good option for you. Starring a young Kevin Bacon this film has some amazing 80’s hit songs that anyone can enjoy. While it’s not an Oscar worthy film by any means, it is entertaining and should be watched at least once.
The Departed (2006)

Streaming: HBO Max
Available On: 7/1
If you haven’t seen Martin Scorsese’s 2006 film, The Departed you are missing out! This is an incredible film with a tremendous cast, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg. From the performances to the plot this film is a must watch and if you’ve already seen it, it is an excellent rewatch. There are so many new things you can discover each time you watch it.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Streaming: HBO Max
Available On: 7/1
Tom Hanks, enough said. But seriously, this is a very well-done epic war film directed by the great Steven Spielberg. Saving Private Ryan is known for its graphic portrayal of war and for the intensity of its second scene of 23 minutes. Since 1998 there have been a number of war films that are just as graphic and intense but this is the one that started it all, at least in my opinion.
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/1
Yet another classic Tom Hanks film to watch in July and another romantic comedy. This 1993 film was directed by Nora Ephron and it is based on the story by Jeff Arch. Great performances by both Hanks and Meg Ryan made this a critical and commercial success back in its day. Sleepless in Seattle will give you all the feels and it is a classic must watch!
Always a Good Rewatch
These are some solid movies that are ever-so rewatchable for a number of different reasons.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)

Streaming: Hulu
Available On: 7/1
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a 2008 romantic comedy directed by Nicholas Stoller starring Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Russell Brand. This is the film to watch when you’ve recently been dumped. Why? Because as much as it might suck, just know it could be worse like much worse (as this movie depicts). You’ll also have some good laughs at the ridiculousness experienced in this movie.
My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Streaming: Hulu
Available On: 7/1
This is a classic! My Cousin Vinny is a 1992 comedy film starring Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio and Marisa Tomei. A lot of the film’s humor comes from the fish-out-of-water interaction between the brash Italian-American New Yorkers and the more reserved Southern townspeople. Both Pesci and Tomei received praise for their performances and the film has been highly praised by attorneys for its accurate depiction of court procedure and trial strategy.
Watchmen (2009)

Streaming: HBO Max
Available On: 7/1
This is definitely one of the top underrated movies of the 2000s! If you haven’t watched it yet, add it to the list for July. Watchmen is a 2009 neo-noir superhero film based on the DC comics from 1986-87. Directed by Zack Snyder, this is a dark and dystopian deconstruction of the superhero drama much like some of Synder’s recent works. 2009 was a big year for movies so I can see why this one might be overlooked. Watchmen is one I will never get tired of rewatching.
Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Streaming: HBO Max
Available On: 7/1
This is a great rewatch! Catch Me If You Can is a 2002 biographical crime film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg (another on the list). It has a strong cast, from Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks to Christopher Walken. The film is based on the life of Frank Abagnale and includes great performances by DiCaprio, Hanks and Walken. I haven’t seen this one is a while so I am excited to rewatch!
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) & Volume 2 (2004)

Streaming: HBO Max
Available On: 7/1
Both of these have been floating around the streaming world for a while now and I’ve watched them both recently. Honestly, I won’t get tired of watching them again. Quentin Tarantino did an incredible job paying homage to grindhouse cinema, martial arts films, samurai cinema and spaghetti Westerns. His work will never disappoint and if you haven’t watch either of these recently, I highly recommend giving them a rewatch.
Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/16
I think I’ve probably rewatched this….over a dozen times…at least. This is a classic and always a good option if you’re in the mood for romance. Keira Knightley has been typecasted as the perfect period piece character and I couldn’t agreed more with that choice. Pride and Prejudice is a 2005 romantic drama does an incredible job depicting Jane Austen’s novel and really encompasses the book’s themes. The score also couldn’t have been more spot on for this film.
A Walk to Remember (2002)

Streaming: Netflix
Available On: 7/1
If you need a good cry, a solid go-to option for July will be this one. Based on the 1999 Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, A Walk to Remember is a 2002 coming-of-age romantic drama starring Mandy Moore and Shane West. While it did receive mixed reviews, this film just pulls at all your heart strings and even if you’ve seen it you can’t help but tear-up several times throughout the movie.
